    Any standard M1911-style slide stop will work. Another contributor to this problem can be a magazine with too short of a slide stop actuator projection. Stack the tolerences of a slide stop with a short projection with a magazine with a short projection and the slide stop will not be actuated by an empty magazine.

    One reason the projection on the slide stop may be shortened is because someone was trying to solve the problem of the slide stop being acutated before the magazine is empty. Sometimes the top cartridge may hit the slide stop projection and actuate it, thus locking the slide back before the magazine is empty. While sometimes it can be necessary to shorten the projection, putting a dimple in the slide stop where the plunger rests is usually a better solution.
