the continental ?

i recently was given a double barrell shotgun it says the continental on one side and belgium pat.june 20 1883 on the other. but it doesnt have gauge on it does anyone know it or what its worth thanks

  Sounds like an Early Belguim Export, sold thru American Hardware Store's and Catalog Sales,and Mail Order House's 1890's thru the mid to Late 1940's...Probably sold for $15.00 to $20.00...Great Wall Hanger...As for Guage...? its probably stamped under the Breech End of the Barrels.....If you will send me a Complete and Total discription I can possibly tell You what Guage it is..Keep In mind that this Old Shotgun is NOT Safe to shoot...as it is more than likely to be a Twist Barrel...or what we call a Damascus Steel Barrel..Modern Loads will be to Powerful for this Old Gun...As it was made to shoot a Low Base, Black Powder Shell....As for value...it depends upon the over all Condition..Wood, Metal, Finish and Bore...Top Value in Good Condition...$250.00.....

  CONTINENTAL was trade name used and stamped on firearms retailed by the GREAT WESTERN GUN WORKS of pittsburgh, pa. the most commonly encountered being the BELGIUM GUILD GUN SXS damascus BBL`d shotgun, and american made side lever single shot break open shotguns in .410 or 28 gauge.
