NOSLER B.T. ON ELK

I loaded up a bunch of Nosler Balistic Tip .338/200gr for my Tikka this year, but never got a shot at elk. Has anyone used em on game yet? Yes, theyre accurate, but how do they hold up on elk?

  I have them in 3oo win mag and a better round I have yet to fine. I
  do use a 180 grain but never have had a problem out to 300 yards

  3 shots 3 elk same bullet (200 gn. nosler b.t.) 1st shot quartering towards me hit in the brisket, desroyed both lungs stoped in the far ball socket(elk stagered 20'), 2nd shot hit the neck, ground 2 vertibray to a pulp (elk went 3', straiht down), 3rd shot facing me hit center of brisket both lungs pulp (same as #2)bullet not recovered.

  Yes, but what about an angry, charging, ground-hog, thats the real test.Hee Hee. Good big game hunting.

  I've read that the .338 and up BT are much stronger built and perform ok on bigger game. I would not use the lighter weights in smaller calibers on anything bigger than deer. I've had extremely good results with the 140 gr BT in 7mm at about 2900fps on deer.

  My brother in law has used his 30-06 with 180 Nosler B.T. bullets on moose with pretty good luck. Just that they ruin more meat than a tougher bullet, but they are very very accurate.

  Have shot a goodly amount of elk and other big game found my cal and bullet of choice is the 7mm mag with a 120 bal tip it does a good job but with any gun its all in shot placement happy huntin.

  ELKMANIAC; GEEZ, 120 GR? IVE USED 7MM/145, BUT NEVER FIGGURED TO GET AWAY USING 120 GR. YES, I KNOW SHOT PLACEMENT, BUT IVE SHOT ENOUGH ELK IN MY 35 YRS OF ELKIN TO KNOW THEY CAN TAKE A LOT OF KILLIN NO MATTER WHERE YOU HIT EM. THATS WHY I SWITCHED TO .338 YEARS AGO. NO OFFENSE, I KNOW A GAME WARDEN THAT USES A .243! I NEVER SHOOT OVER 250 YARDS, AND TRY TO WAIT FOR THE PERFECT SHOT TOO, BUT A BIG BULL CAN GET YOUR BLOOD UP, AND YOU CANT HAVE TOO MUCH GUN! I GUESS I LIVE TOO CLOSE TO ELMER KEITHS HOME! HES RIGHT, A 338 KILLS ELK LIKE A 30/06 KILLS DEER!

  queeksdraw LOL a guy did shoot a elk downstate this year it must have swam over the mississippi from a elk farm in Mo. Got fined a sh** load. He said he thought it was a deer. Damn Chicago guys. But to answer your question I elk hunt in Colorado and wyoming.

  Elect1Mike. I crack myself up. Yes we get the same guys (or I should say the conservation officer does) Driving down the county roads at night in a B M W or Lexus hanging out the windows blasting away at the big brown deer with white faces,they are always from Chicago or Gary. My appoligies to pac rat,for taking up his space.
