GLOCK 17 recall from early 1990s?
What were the weapons recalled for? Waht was the fix? What serial numbers were affected?

I can't tell you the serial numbers, but I do know they replaced the firing pin and the recoil spring assembly. If you contact Glock they can tell you if your's is affected. The easy way to tell is: If your's has a two piece recoil spring and rod (rather than a captive system), it needs to go back for the recall. 0 -
The factory update included replacement of trigger, trigger bar, extractor, captive slidespring assembly, firing pin, firing pin safety and firing pin safety spring.
The critical parts and subject of this safety update are the firing pin & firing pin safety with spring. These parts should be checked for burring of their mating surfaces and proper tension of the safety spring.
A question came up on this board last week about a G17 with a faulty firing pin safety that wouldn't hold the firing pin back.
This is a dangerous condition.
On my own early G19 the only part really needing replacement was the firing pin safety which was burring up but still working well.0 -
All Glock pistols manufactured prior to 1991 were recalled for a "free upgrade". This recall fix involves replacing, free of charge, most of the major internal parts. Any Glock armorer can inspect your pistol and let you know if it's already been upgraded.

This make and model pistol may have the potential for an UNINTENTIONAL DISCHARGE of a cartridge with the action open.
The Glock, model 19 pistol slide has a bottom protrusion, whose function is to push cartridges from the top of the magazine into the chamber . When the pistol is jammed in a double feed situation, the slide protrusion can come in contact with the primer of the jammed cartridge and cause UNINTENTIONAL DISCHARGE while the action is open.

CONVERSION TO FULLY-AUTOMATIC FIRING
It has been determined that gang members in California and Florida have been converting Glock pistols to have FULLY-AUTOMATIC firing capability. In some regions of California, police are treating any Glock they encounter as a machine gun until proven otherwise. It would be wise to assume that gangs in other localities have also made this conversion.
The conversion from standard to fully-automatic is fast and simple, requiring no technical expertise. The conversion part involved is referred to as the slide cover plate. The original Glock slide cover plate is made of polymer but the bootleg piece is made of steel. The conversion is accomplished merely by swapping one piece for the other. (A "real pro" can make the switch in 15 seconds.)
On a modified Glock the polymer edge of the trigger housing mechanism, which sits just forward of the cover plate, has to be partially cut away. It is apparent without having to remove the slide that a significant amount of material has been cut away, leaving a large void visible through the notch.
Finding a Glock modified in this manner should be considered a clear indication that the weapon has been altered to function in a fully-automatic mode.

Mr. Don Bulver, warrant department, of Glock, Inc. indicated the recoil springs produced before September 1999 may shear off on some of these pistols due to over hardness of the support tube.
Replacement springs will be distinguished by a vertical mark from the center on the front polymer portion of outer ring of the guide rod assembly which will appear to be a mold line.
