Steyr M95 Service Rifle 8X50R

Another value question! (I like 'em!) O.K.--in my humble-military-rifle-collecting-opinion: $200. BECAUSE: The 8x50 is much less common than the 8x56, and the full length rifles (yours is, isn't it?) are much less common than the carbine length version. Originally most were the long rifle, but those that surivived W.W.I were mostly shortened before W.W.II and rechambered to 8x56, mainly because the long slender barrel was found to overheat and warp under the rapid fire of trench warfare; and also because shorter rifles had become the military vogue. My estimate is made, of course, on the assumption that your specimen is unaltered and not "sporterized". If your rifle was in something close to unissued condition it would perhaps be worth as much as $450, but "Very Good", taken as an NRA rating stretches all the way from just past "Good" to just under "Excellent" and covers a lot of territory. Out of curiosity, did you ever succeed in shooting it? Shootable factory ammo is difficult to find. I have exactly 10 rounds of very corroded, unusable ammo headstamped in the 1890's with split necks and verdigris around the bullets. The original clips were solid rather than skeletonized like the later clips. 0
