Browning B2000

My dad was having problems with his B2000 20 guage ejecting the spent shell and having to manually extract it. I figured it needed the gas piston cleaned, so I downloaded an owners manual and stripped it down, cleaned the piston parts, and put it back together. We tried it out over the weekend and it's still not right. It will kick the shell out, but stove-pipes the empty. I took the barrel off and checked the gas ports and they were clear, but haven't taken the piston down again, to check if I didn't get it back together correctly. Any ideas?

  hello-are the b2000 20 gauge guns built on a smaller reciever or are they just a 12 gauge receiver with a 20 gauge barrel on them?

  A 2 3/4 barrel is all he needs.
  The "gas port" in each barrel is designed for a specific shot shell.
  I have a number of extra barrels for the 2000, all are new.
  Depends on what choke he wants, if I can help.

  I have a Browning 2000. I have shot it for years and according to the Browning website it is obsolute. However it still works fine, but Browning does not carry parts for it anymore.
  That being said, it is the barrel that will allow you to shoot the 3" shell. The size of the gas port and chamber are the controlling factors. The 2 3/4" chamber barrel will shot every round that I have put into the gun. The 3" chamber barrel that I have will not cycle the 2 3/4" rounds. The gas port is much smaller.

  If you no longer want to shoot 3" mag. shells, and only want to shot 2 3\4 shells, open your gas port holes in steps of .005, with a small drill bit.When you reach the point where your shot gun cycles 2 3\4 shells, mark out the 3" mag., and stamp for 2 3\4 shells. If you shoot 3" shells, after opening the gas ports, you will damage your gun, with greater bolt velocity.I did this on my B-2000, and it works great on 1 oz.and 1 1\8 oz. loads.Mine is a Trap grade, so I didn't have as much to remove as you.
  Be very carefull, and drill the holes by hand with a pin vice, or a chuck off a discarded drill. Good luck K.J.S.

  Thanks to you all. Simple enough. I think I'll spring for a 2-3/4 barrel for this friend of mine. He'll be tickled and I can almost hear him now telling every one he's got a double-barreled Browning shotgun. Best regards, Jim
