I was looking at a lightly used 44 Super Redhawk w. 9" and a nice Leupold scope. The trigger feels rather smooth for a Ruger. What's your overall impression of these in terms of accuracy--I'm sure the durability is not an issue with a Ruger.

THEY KICK!!!!!!! other than that they are fine and as with just about any other ruger they shoot good.

The barrel should actually be 9.5"
I have one with a fixed 4x Leopould that you really have to take care installing the scope tightly in the rings and really crank down the rings in the notches in the top strap. I installed Hogue finger groove grip like these http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=6811761(not mine) really helped. And I love the smooth trigger pull it's almost scary when you havn't felt a great trigger before, although it's still more accurate single action. I reload some Nosler 300gr JHP on slower powder and they group real nice at 50 yards. I paid 425.00 for mine with less than 50 rounds through it and the scope was 175.00

I own one with the 9.5 barrel and I second the kick part.It is a resonably accurate gun and heavy.I had a scope on mine but removed it after about a year.I bought a holster and carry it during deer season along with my hunting rifle.

If you like to pull scabs off the back of your thumb, by all means buy it

I don't know what scabs you are talking about......I've shot about 500 Magnum rounds through mine.....never had a problem. I love it.

The Ruger is a good choice.I've never had any problems, got the 44 and
the 454 casull.20 rounds of the casull and the 44 feels like a bearcat

I put a Hogue grip on mine, but took it off. Recoil is not a problem. I shoot 2-300 rounds a week. Never hurt myself. Took scope off, too heavy. Also put a 7 1/2" barrel on it.It feels a lot better.
Expect recoil from large caliber magnum handguns.

I was considering something along these lines (.44 mag stainless revolver w/ scope) to deer hunt with would you guys recommend the Ruger over other models? i.e. Smith, Taurus, Colt etc. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

P.S. And would a guy want a fixed scope? What power?

I would go for the Tarus. it has a compensator built on it and it does tame the recoil some. I have a tasco aimpoint on mine and can print football size groups off a rest at 200 yds. with reloads 240 gr xtp's over ww 296. do plan to use it on dear when I move to Maine this year.

matwor: the Ruger Super Redhawk will take more hot loads than any other double action revolver out there , look at the Bushnell Holosight there great , if you really must use a scope Burris makes a good one I like their 2 x 7

Kick...a Ruger Super Redhawk...you must be kidding! Mike Venturio( I think) writes for Guns&Ammo or Shooting Times, and a quote from the article "the worst kicking 44 mag on the market...S&W Mountain gun"!

Trying shooting a full mag load thru the high priced 2.5" and 3" model 629's had'em....even before the became hi-dollar & popular guns..and dumped'em...

I have been shooting 44 mag's for 20+ years and the Ruger Super RedHawk is definitely NOT A KICKER...what'a ya'll smok'n...LOL
