After reviewing several German websites, I now believe the four capital letters to be A. D. J. V. and it seems to refer to some type of German Fighter/Hunter Protection. Can anyone verify? The script is engraved on the right side of the upper receiver. Obviously presented to someone, but alas, no name!

The Province of Posen was taken from Germany after WWI. It took it back from 1939 to 1944. Posen is now Poznan, Poland.
