Pls. help I.D. a clunker sixgun from W.Germany
A frined bought a .22 cal. sixgun that looks real "shaky" to me.
It has a .22lr barrl,and a .22 mag cylinder.Seems to fire allright but he'd like to find a lr cyl. to fit it.
very few markings...says HS in a circle with a banner behind it,and model 21. made in W. Germany
I"m thinking RG,but it doesn't say that.
Anyon heard of this ugly POS? It seems to shoot ok,but looks really hammered so I've not shot it,and prob. won't.

I believe your friend has a HERBERT SCHMIDT of Ostheim/Rhon in what was Known as West Germany...Maker of Handguns Liberty Model and the Texas Scout...On todays market and in Excellent Condition, Worth $75.00....As for chasing Parts for this Gun...? Doubtful at best...

You can get a spare cylinder from Numrich Gun Parts. The only problem might be the cost. The cylinder is listed as being Colt manufactured. From what I have seen of these guns, they look like they are the same size and general configuration as the Colt Scout. The price on Colt 22 LR cylinders will in the $75.00 range. That might be more than your friend wants to pay. An HS cylinder if found should be around $25.00 or less.

The cost of the cylinder will be offset by being able to shoot cheaper ammo,and he can shoot just minutes from home...at work,actually.
I'll contact Numerich and see what's available.ARe they called Numerich now,or Gun Parts Corp??

These HS (herbert schmidt?) items are one of the "cheaper" copys of the colt s.a. 22 , they are a very useable item (in good cond.), but parts are a real pain (and can be exspensive)...I have had several ,
if you decide to sell , let us know ....

Don't shoot it with someone standing to the side too close.They are real lead shavers. You might the timing is not real good.

There is truth in all the preceding posts! It is a Herbert Schmidt, They're not a really good gun; they are functional for the price. Parts are available from the Numrich Gun Parts Corp., 226 Williams Ln., P.O. Box 299, West hurley, New York 12491. (914)679-2417. You can also try: www.gunpartscorp.com . The parts are listed on page 249 of Catalog #22 (I don't have 23 at my fingertips--but I assure you that they are still listed). I have repaired several, and in fact have 2 in my shop to be fixed right now! Never have had too much trouble getting parts, as the same gun in various cosmetically changed models was sold as: Hawes Deputy Marshal, Herbert Schmidt, Hawes Deputy, Western Duo, Herters, Buffalo, Texas Scout, Omega, Excam TA-22, HS-21, Geroco Liberty 13, Kimel, Guy Jones, FIE-Texan, Rough Rider, Heritage Arms, etc., etc. Most of the ones I've encountered have been Buffalo Scouts or TA-22s. They were actually made in Germany by the Herbert Schmidt Co., no matter what the name sold under. Because of their alloy frame they show their battle scars easily. Because they were a cheap gun sold cheaply they tend to be well used and usually look like it; but usually can be repaired. 0
