value of an ariska

i have an ariska type 99..my dad brought it home as a war trophy when he served with the 28th marines on iwo jima..it is dated 1943..the weapon is in very good shape,dad keep it well..is still a very good shooter..has the airplane sights and the monopod is still there as well as the cleaning rod..all the numbers match and it still has the mum on it as well as a steel buttplate so it is not a last ditch piece no cracks in the wood or any rust and the bore is really good..had the original bayo but it has been misplaced..mom said she used it to cut bread for years and it is somewhere around the attic alone with a captured jap flag and an officers sword...any idea as to what it would be worth??

  In such cond you are in the $150-$200 catagory. They are slowly catching on among collectors.

  I would expect to pay $100 to $150 just for a rifle in VG shape with unground mum. Dust cover add about $25, monopod $40, bayonet could be anything from $20 to $150 depending on model and condition.

  Your questions and the answers received were reasonable; however there is a horrible error someplace! These rifles were NOT dated. An experienced collector can approxomate date of mfg from various details of components and SN's, but no date as such appears on the T-99.

  The condition of the wood is also a big factor in Arisakas. Another
  factor would be if was a long rifle(about 50")or a standard rifle the long ones in good shape demand a premium around here.If it has the original sling that would add alot to its value also.

  thanks for the respones..no it it not dated on the weapon itself..dad did some research and came up with that date from the serial number..it is a standard size rifle 44" long and the wood is very good..i would rate the weapon at 75 to 80%..it also has the original leather sling on it

  Original leather sling is worth some bucks if in good shape. I never saw one. Most used in orient rotted from humidity.

  I've never owned an original sling myself. If you are sure it is original and not some generic or mismatched leather sling, I agree that prices are quite high. I have heard of some selling for over $100 for a really nice one in nice shape but at least $30 for one with some rot but intact. I admit though that of all of the components you list with the rifle I know least about the sling.

  well as far as i know this is the original sling..it has been on the gun as far back as i can remember and it has no rot..just some minor cracking from age..has what looks like a big belt buckle type of adjuster and the front that goes into the sling swivel is kinda like a ak setup except the thing is about 1 1/2" wide
