I'm not an expert I believe the x-iii has the paralex adjustment 0 -
cowdoc, The VariX 3 has audible felt clicks on the adjustments and the VariX 2 is just a smooth turn. Both are AO in the higher powers and the VariX 3 is just their better version kind of like the Nikon Buckmaster vs the Nikon Monarch...there is a difference! GHD 0 -
ok thanks GHD i need to get some good glass for my stealth when i pick it up in the near future.. i have nikons but no leupolds didnt know what the diff was between the vx's thanks again.

also most Vari-XIII's start at half powers,ie 3.5 4.5 6.5 and they have a bigger gold ring on'em which costs a bunch,there I added my .02 worth,Bob 0 -
leupold.com will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about Leupold scopes. I just bought a Vari-X III, 6.5-20X40 and it's a beauty. Sure wish Leupold would include lens caps (even a cheap set) with their scopes. 0 -
Get a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm. Great scope for the money($400).
The Vari-X III line has more anti-reflective coating layers on all surfaces, and greater selection of powers and reticles. Primarily, the main difference you are paying for is really better glass with more multiple coatings on interior lense surfaces.

i own a vari-x III in a 6.5x20x50 in a mil dot and this things sees everything i want to see and more excellent scope 0 -
Most of the info stated already is correct... And Leupold has a great bit of knowledge listed on thier site. I have had both the vari-x 2 and 3 models. The 3's are MUCH better, but nearly twice as much. If you want to save some money the 2's are good, but notice one thing...
There is a Vari-x II
and a VX-II
The only difference is the VX-II is 1/4 MOA and the Vari-X II is 1/2 MOA. The cost difference between these is very minimal...
Also, unless you are going to regularly shoot 300+ yards, I personally think the adjustable objective is a waste of money. I have set mine to 100 (which is what a normal 4.5 x 14 x 50 Vari-X III is set at anyway), and I haven't ever found a need to adjust it, even though I have experimented a lot.
The Zeiss scopes as suggested are good scopes, but I prefer to support manufacturers right here in the ole' USA (no offense boom)0 -
bambihunter--Thank you for raising the differences between the models that are often used interchangably in discussions. It's a pet peeve of mine. Vari-X-II, VX-II, Vari-X-III and VX-III are all different scopes. I know the Vari-X-II has been discontinued but can still be found in stock in many places. 0 -

Yeah, cabelas and bass pro still show primarily just the vari models. I think it is sad that a company like Leupold would put 1/2MOA on their scopes (unless it is under 4x maybe).0 -
ok thanks guys i did make a mistake i should have typed vari x lll instead of vxlll boomerang thank for the link ...i have been to leupold site but didnt look hard enough for the info i was looking for
