Casting Bullets ?

I have heard of using wax when casting Bullets. Why the wax and

what do I do with it. I have everything I need and ready to cast.Some

answers soon would be appreciated.


I am confused at times.We park on driveways anddrive on parkways.

  Probably refering to lube. Cast lead bullets need to be lubed or they will lead the barrel. One common mix is 50/50 beeswax and alox. I wouldn't bother. Lee Liquid alox works as well as anything I've tried and is far easier to apply than most. Just dump your bullets in it and roll around, then let dry on wax paper overnight.

  Oh hey it could also be referring to flux. When your lead is melted, you should drop in something to flux it, of which beeswax is an excellant choice. A pea sized piece per ladle, scraped around a few times with an old spoon, and the gunk scraped off the top does wonders. However, there are less messy more effective commercial fluxes such as Marvelux available.

  Yes jonk; I am casting Smoke Pole Bullets.These are Grooved Conicals that I lube with grease. I was wanting to know what the wax does for me in the melting pot.When I cast into the mold,the lead comes out of a spout at the bottom of the pot.

  The flux beeswax,if that's what you are using keeps the ingredients mixed & clean,lead tin and other metals that make up the alloy.But for pure lead casting like your'e doing it's mostly to bring the dirt to the top.

  ATF is correct about the cleaning properties of fluxing the pot prior to casting...The junk that comes to the top is called "dross" you skim that off the surface with a spoon, like skimming the grease off the top of a pot of meat stew.... For those frugal ones out there with toddlers around, the stubby ends of the kids used up crayons work just fine...Doesn't even result in technicolor bullets.....DARN....
