RE:long action and short action

[?][?] i am in the process of buying a bolt action rifle can anyone please explain the difference between a long action rifle and a short action rifle will they shoot the same size ammo or do i need a short ammo for a short action rifle,i am completely confused about this any help would be greatly appreciated thank you, shotgunred

  shotgunred, Short actions are for the smaller size calibers, 222,223,22-250,243,6mm,257Roberts,260Rem,7mm-08,308. Long actions are needed to accomadate the longer cartridges like 25-06,270,30-06,7mmMag or such. The new Winchester Short Magnums and Remington Short Action Ultra Magnums are powerful cartridges that utilize short actions. Hope this helps. GHD

  After you buy your gun, remember to get the scope mounts for the correct action.
  
  I like long actions - there's just something about any round that has Magnum after it. It's a Dirty Harry thing! [:D]
