I'm wanting the best scope for no more than $750.00(unless there is a real standout that is worth an extra $50.00-$100.00).

I have a Leupold picked out. It is the VX III 4.5-14x50mm Long Range Side Focus with a 30mm Tube. I was also wondering if the illuminated model is worth the extra money.

I was also looking into Sightron but I can't seem to find a lot of information about them. Can anyone help me out here? Are they as good as Leupold?

Are there any other brands I should look at?

I'm using this for big game and varmint hunting, maybe some target shooting (nothing serious). The gun I am using is a Remington Model 700 308.

Any information/suggestions would be helpful.

    I am looking for input on sightron scopes, good or bad? I'm looking at a S2 6.5-25x50 ao. This is a new brand to me. Can anybody help?

    You might try Leupold, If it goes bad their warenty is good, I have been trying out a B&L fer the past several Mo's and it has proven to be a very good scope, but more money. Stay away from Nicon, They will NOT honor their Warenty. Good Luck

    I have a Burris fullfield II that so far is a very good scope.I also use the Bushnell Elite 3200 that is holding up good.Both of these are in the $200.00 range.Both are good scopes. Al

    Burris is probably the best scope made in the U.S. period. Their warrenty is one word: Forever.

    Leupold and Nikon are also quality scopes, and despite Chuck's unpleasant experience with Nikon warrenty, the market has forced them to be as responsive on warrenty work as anyone else.

    Nikon Monarch is the best for getting a good deal. It is close in comparison with the Leupold Vari-x 3 (yes, leupold is better) but the leupolds are hard to get great buys on. The Nikon Monarch you can find great buys on if you look. I bought a new 3x9-40 Monarch for $228 and put it on a .338 win mag and it has worked great, sighted in when it was mounted and never had to touch it again.

    My experience & He Dog is different.
    Since I had seven (got rid of 5, & will get rid of the other 2 this month) Burris scopes, I can't agree with He Dog. They are good scopes, & there warranty says "forever", but my experience is, there service & warranty SUCKS. The word "forever" to me means "forever", not just when they feel like it. I switched to Leupold & B&L Elite 4200. Can't go wrong with either one.

    The scope people are like the medical profession, Their Rapeing us, A good scope will cost as much money as a rifle and wont last as long Their is all so less work to make a scope than a rifle, For the money they suck. May be we could all get togeather and not buy a certain brand untill they made a decent scope, I have a lot of Leupolds and have sent a lot of them back for repair, They all ways come back within 10 days, Great Warenty. but tired of spending 12$ shiping. Had one Nicon go bad and the co. would NOT fix it. Have gone to B&L They seem good so far. IF YOU HAVE YOUNG EYES GO TO A RECEVER SIGHT.

    I have used a Nikon 3-9x40 Monarch on my Ruger .308 the past two deer seasons and think it is an awesome scope in performance and value. You can get the Monarch for around $250 at www.bearbasin.com. It has been compared favorably to the Leupold VX-III and after using one I believe it.

    I really like my leupold VXIII 1.5-5. I have it on a Remington 700 classic 350 Remington mag. The scope has good eye relief, never bit me yet.

    You got to go with the Bushnell Elite. These range from about 200 and up. The nice thing is if you buy one and you don't like it, Bushnell will fully refund your money in the first year.
