I WAS WANDERING ??I HAVE A WINCHESTER #70 pre64 in 308 WIN. IT ALSO HAS THE FANCY WOOD(checkering and forearm tip)THIS WAS MY DAD'S RIFLE AND I WAS JUST CURIOUS AS TO HOW MUCH IT WAS WORTH....THANKS[?]

  Without knowing something of it's condition, it's not something I could make an accurate "guess" about. If you can take some photos & post them that would help. You could also do a search for similar items that have sold on this forum's parent auction 'site. These are popular items & that caliber has wide appeal; whether it's saleable - for what you would like to get out of it - is altogether another question.

  Missouri10X, You have described what might be a model 70 Featherweight Super Grade. If so it will have Super Grade on the floorplate and a black forearm tip. According to Rule's book, there were only 101 Super Grade Featherweights produced in .308 Cal. I would check with an expert before disposing of the rifle. This being said, I think it is most likely the Featherweight in the standard grade and worth much less than a Super Grade.

  Pre-64 70's are catagorized in two groups: Those whose condition and scarcity make them "collectable" and those whose condition and abundance make them "shooters." Values (asking prices at least) range from $600 or $700 well into the thousands. Condition is critical, and for that one you need a good appraisal of the condition and to figure out exactly what you have. Either way nice rifle!

  THIS GUN IS IN ABOUT 95% OR BETTER CONDITION,AND YES IT SAYS SUPER GRADE ON IT AND HAS A BLACK FOREARM TIP ALSO IT HAS SLING SWIVLES....I WOULD NEVER SELL IT..IT WAS MY DAD'S AND I DON'T HAVE MANY THINGS OF HIS THAT WHERE AS SPECIAL TO HIM AS THIS RIFLE...I WAS JUST WONDERING HOW MUCH IT WAS WORTH..A GOOD BALLPARK FIGURE WILL DO...THANKS

  if it is a feather weight super grade you have a very valuable rifle on your hands like around couple thousand dollars or more. i would have it apraised by an expert!

  A bit of research turned up:
  
  a 96% pre-64 M70 (1961?), Super Grade in .458WM, no swivels, current bid of $2,928.00; a .30-06 for $3,675; 2 different .270's for $2,000.00 & 2,100.00; a 1957, 98% .458WM for $4,750; a 1941 .220 Swift for a starting bid of $1,850, no bids yet...

  BE CAREFUL SELLING THIS TO ANY GUNSHOP OR DEALER. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE VALUE OUT OF IT IS TO SELL TO A COLLECTOR. MOST GUNSHOPS WILL NOT GIVE YOU WHAT IT WORTH BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE TO SELL IT FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH AND THEY WOULD NOT MAKE A PROFIT.
