I AM TRYING TO GET SOME INFO ON A GUN THAT I JUST PICKED UP, IT IS A W&C SCOTT AND SONS, 12GA, 30 1/4" BARRELS, HIGHLY ENGRAVED, SERIAL NUMBER RANGE IS 519XX, IT HAS THE DAMASCUS LOOK, BUT I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS, THE BORES ARE EXCELLENT WOOD HAS BEEN REDONE BUT NICE, IT ALSO HAS THE AUTO EJECTORS, WHAT IS A VALUE RANGE AND WHAT IS THE YEAR OF PRODUCTION? THANKS

  W&C Scott operated in Birmingham, England starting right about 1840. In 1862 the company became W & C Scott & Son. An amalgamation of companies rendered the name Scott & Webley in 1897. I have no chronologies of serial numbers, but gun no. 40425 was produced in 1887. If it appears to be damascus, it probably is, and should not be fired until checked by a QUALIFIED gunsmith with fiberoptics, and if passed, only used with blackpowder loads. I can give you no better date or value, likely you need to check with an expert on English shotguns.

  I too have a Webley and Scott shotgun.
  
  My gun is 12 gauge 32" barrel chambered for 3" marked as 3 1/2 Tons per square (and it is a little square) inch. The receiver, trigger and trigger guard are a beautiful case hardened finish. Every part bears the same # - barrel, receiver, forestock and butt stock. This gun is a single barrel.
  
  I have emailed around the world and people in England were surprised there was a Webley and Scott single and people in Australia said they were common - Go Gigure!
  
  I have had people tell me it was worth $150. as it is a zulu (??) gun and I had someone tell me it was worth $2500. at a local "Antiques Road Show". I beleive the manufacture is circa 1935 as Winchester made 3" shotgun shells in the early thirties and it was probably a water fowl gun given the barrel length.
  
  Webley and Scott ceased operations and the toolling etc was bougtht up by Holland and Holland - not a low rent manufacturer.
  
  I would think your gun is quite valuable even if it is damascus
