Long or Short action 22-250
I have been looking at the Savage varmints and noticed they offer 22-250
in long and short actions, The 22-250 is the only cal offered in both configurations.
What's the difference????
Thanks

Is the long action in a fast twist barrel? That could be the difference to allow the use of heavy VLD type bullets which would be hard to seat correctly in a short action. GHD 0 -
I don't know about now but, they used to have all calibers in long action. That's all they made one time in the past.I had a .223 long action.[|)][V][:(!]

Well you don't really need a long action for a 22-250, by utilizing a short action (a shorter reciever) the gun's over all lenght will be a little shorter. But if you are a hand loader, by utilizing a long action with the proper barrel and throat, you could use heavier weight/longer bullets and still have the ability to hold them in the magazine and eject them without problems. 0 -
The long actions are probably old stock from prior to the change over to the short action series. There is nothing wrong with them except a little extra weight and slightly more flex in the action area.
