ruger mini 14 - PMI mags
I have a couple of nickle plated mini 14 mags (30 & 40 rnds). They both have the welded on steel tabs typical of a PMI and the typical holes punched on the sides. I bought them out of the package and assume they are PMI, but the PMI's I just got in wrapper have more like a dull zinc coating instead of bright nickle. The zinc coated looking s/s ones in the wrapper and the nickle plated ones do not have PMI stamped on bottom. I've had many other ones in wrapper that were not stamped so I know that some left factory without stamps.
My question is: Did PMI make nickle coated mags also or do I have another mfr like Masen or Scherer?

I could be up in the night here, but the only PMI Mags I have ever had or seen anywhere in a silver color were stainless steel. I have had some of the 30 and 40 round ones and they were stainless, and were NOT bright polished but a rather "dull" stainless.
That being said, someone will prove me wrong......that is if they ever made any "Nickel Plated" mags for the Mini 14......!

PMI made both the Nickel as well as the Stainless mags for the Mini 14 (and of course Blue also). I still have some of each in stock. The ones made in the later years of production did not have the PMI stamping on the floor plate. The holes on the sides as well as the welded lugs are usually the tell-tale sign that they are PMI. I just was not sure if the other mfr's made it exactly lke PMI, but nickle plated instead. Now I know.
What I do know is that their "stainless" is not true stainless. If anything, a 410 series stainless with a little carbon, but not 300 series stainless.
Not sure, but did Sherer(?), Masen or any others make it with that welded lug also?
