Madsen Model 47 .30-06

I came across a Madsen Model 47 Columbian contract rifle in .30-06 this afternoon. It appears to be in great shape and the price seems reasonable ($350). Are these decent rifles? How do they compare with say a 1903?

  Had one once years ago. It was in excellent condition with a black paint finish. Shot it a couple of times at 100 yard range, accuracy seemed only mediocre.
  Sounds like you got a heck of deal, the collectors are after them now, and the prices have gone up substantially since I've had mine.
  It's hard to compare with the Springfield, as it's post WW II design, to be a economical battle rifle for third world nations.
  Found this on a collectors site from a very happy owner of one, who had just acquired it.
  
  " The Madsen was the last bolt action rifle ever produced for and used by front line troops. It was designed in 1947 in Denmark. It was basically obsolete by time the first order was placed! The only order for the Madsen rifle was placed by Columbia, who ordered roughly 6,000 of them. The Columbians refered to the rifle as Modelo 58. The rest of the world refers to the gun as the Madsen light Infantry Rifle Model 1947. It's .30-06 caliber.
  These are fairly rare and kind of obscure. There are two different models of the Modelo 58. One has a plain stock, the other, which is what I have has the Columbian Armed Forces crest inletted int the left side of the stock.
  All Madsens in the US were imported pre '68, so there are no import marks on them. It's a neat rifle, a real sleeper for collectors. Unfortunately when the rifle came out, loads of WW2 surplus was available to countries needing new rifles as well as the introduction of the semi auto & full auto rifles."

  I have a Maddsen, its a great rifle. Although I dont know if you can compare it to a 1903 Springfield, as far as the history and being able to accurize and sporterize it. But it is a good shooting rifle, I really like the peepsites, I can make decent groups at 150 200yds. If you look on ***********.com there is one on there going for over 700$ but it had the bayonet. When I saw that I cleaned mine real good and put it away. I pad about 100$ for mine but that was almost 20yrs ago.
