Which Star 380 do I have?
I picked up a Star 380 for $100; it's pretty clean and looks the same size and shape of a Colt Government (Mustang, Pony, etc) 380. The gun is blued steel frame and slide with black plastic grips with a thumbrest on the left. It has an adjustible (windage) rear sight and the SN is in the 1 million range. The left side of the slide has the star (*) logo and STAR EIBAR SPAIN, the right side has Interarms Alexandria Virginia. It has a front bushing like a Colt 1911 style, single action with the safety at the rear of the gun. The Star logo is also on the grips. It has a case colored spur hammer and single stack 8rd mag.
So, which model is it?

Do the best I can with your description.
More than likely a Model S. These were manufactured from 1941 to 1965, so a SN in the 1 million range is very probable. All importation of these Police contract models was disc. in 1991.
If condition is better than 80% you were not hurt on your deal.

SN is actually in the 1.8 million range. How do I tell which model S? S, SS, SM, SI ??? 0 -
Model S1 - .32 ACP cal
Model S - similar to Model S1, except .380 ACP cal.
Models Super S1 and S - similar to Model S, with Super Star improvements. Can not help when they refer to improvements.
Model Super SM - similar to Model Super S, except adjustable sight and wood grips.
If your Star .380 is import stamped Interarms it is most likely a Model S.

According to my references one of the main differences between the "SS" and "SUPER SM" which were both INTERARMS marked .380's is the magazine. On the former the magazine tongue fits into a recess in the grip frame. The "SUPER SM" magazine fits flush on the grip frame. It also has a loaded chamber indicator, that is missing from the earlier "SS" model. 0
