vz24, to buy or not to buy...

I have never owned a mauser, i shot a nice 98 this weekend, and loved it.
I am not a gunsmith either, but am semi competant,
I would like to buy and build a nice mauser, nothing fancy, so i started looking, looks like the vz24 is cheap enough, and I think parts are same for the 98(making them readilly available), so is this a good choice?

  The Vz24 is an excellent choice for what you want to do. However, as was pointed out earlier on this forum, it will most likely cost you more to build up a decent sporter from a military action then it would cost to just buy a new rifle in the caliber that you want.

  But guys like me dont have 400$ to shell out all at once, so 79.99 now and a hundred next month etc.. aint so bad, and i like the feeling of doing things myself.
  So, if i go looking for a stock, scope mount, maybe even a barrel, am I looking for 98 parts?

  The vz24 uses standard m98 parts. The cheaper rifles will probably have the crest ground off the top of the front ring. Depending on how much metal was removed, you may have to shim the front scope mount when you get that far. It's not a big thing but something to remember. I've rebarrelled several of them lately and had good luck with them.
