Affordable long range caliber *** Revisited ***

8mm Mauser ~ how's 7.8 cents per round sound? Affordable enough?
I bought one of the Turkish Mausers for $65 delivered - FFL fee's and all [^] then ordered a 1400 round case of Turkish 8mm Surplus ~ another $110 delivered to my door. Then of course I wanted a nicer Mauser so I got one of the un-issued Yugo's.
Well this got me hooked! I was getting 2" groups at 100 with open sights! Anyway getting to the point that old turk kicks like a p.o.'ed mule and I started by getting a big re-coil pad, then pulling ammo apart and reloading the original components with less powder ~
Well, getting to the point (again) ~ over the last year I've been working up a milder load ~ and after scoping my Yugo, I'm getting groups just under an inch at 100 and about 2.5"-2.75" out at 300 yards (thats the max distance for our range) ~ pretty affordable for a total investment of less than $425 for gun, scope, mounts and 1400 rounds of ammo [:D]
I know in your original thread you had said 700-1000 yards, but unfortunatly at the range I belong to I don't have that kind of distances to experment with ~ but I wanted to share my results.

Thanks everyone, I have been looking at nagants and the mausers for a while. Which of these two is better and ability to get acc. for them.

I think you'll find a lot more accessories for the Mausers than the Nagants ... I know I've seen a couple synthetic stocks and a few other odds and ends for the Nagant, nothing when compared to the Mausers. Virtually every part for a Mauser can be found as both original military or custom dress parts ... barrels in all the popular caliburs, triggers in every configuration from single or double set, 3-4 makers of scope mounts and rings, bolt handles ... kinda like the Enigizer Bunny, the list just keeps going and going and going ... [:D]
