COYOTE'S AT 200 YDS
yep,coyote's at 200 yds,now what rifle would be best,i know this question has been ask since time.i have a 700 rem. in .223 and i love it,i have killed many deer with it,but i would like something a little bigger.a 243 maybe how about a 308.dont throw something else in now.my little brain or my bank acc. couldn't stand it. i am really settled on a 243 or 308. i want to target shoot with it and hunt coyote's with it deer hunt when i get the chance,tell me something

Go with the 6mm Remington, its just a "stretched" 243.[^] 0 -
243 with 55 grain nos bullet at 3900 fps spanks coyotes at 300 yds really good.. my favortie coyote loading

I have a number of .243 cal rifles that I use on everything from groundhogs to whitetails here in Pa. and you will not be unhappy with it.

I would go with the 308 because if I already had a 223, I know I could take out varmits past 200 yds and the 308 would give me the ability to take anything from coyotes to elk if I had the opportunity. If I did not have a 223, I would go with the 243. If you go with the 308, you will have two very good calibers for your needs and plenty of military ammo available for both. You could then spend many years getting to "know your rifles" and buying accessaries instead of buying another rifle. 0 -
I like the 308. I think that it is more versitile. With proper reloads there isnt very much in north america that will be out of reach if you decide to go after it. Good luck buying a new cartrige is always a pleasant thing so enjoy the process!! Superxjeff 0 -
I hunt everything with a 30-06, from bobcats to elk. I also use 150 grian bullets for everything except elk--there I use 180's. Coyotes have become numerous enough here that I've started doing some population control. There are several areas where the shots can be 500 yards or greater. No problem with the 06 caliber--I am limited only by my shooting skills.
To answer your question: of the two calibers you mentioned, I suggest the .308.

A 6mm is a sweet shooting bullet. Its a little faster in 100gr. bullet than a .243. The only down fall is the smallest bullet I have seen is a 75gr. But that would still more than take care of any varmint. 0
