Star B and Super B
I've been looking at the B and Super B in 9mm. What are the differences between the models? I have a BM(compact 
but haven't handled a Super B. Also, do the two use the same mag? Sog lists mags for the B only.

All three use seperate mags. The Super B also has a quick take down lever that allows the gun to be disassembled more easily than the BM or the B. SOG ran out of the mags for the Super. 0 -
I can remember seeing the Star Model B as far back as the early 1970's when they were imported by Firearms International and then Later by Garcia. The prices back then were pretty reasonable. Later Garcia was taken over by Beretta and Interarms began importing the Star pistols and raised their prices! Back in the old store where I cut my teeth in the gun business in the late seventies, the Star Model B sold for a bit under $200- pretty pricey since a Colt Government Model could be had in 9mm for about the same money and A Browning Hi-power for only a little more! Sales fell to near zero and we stopped selling them.
As far as actual shooting, I remember that the Star was actually pretty good. I liked the shape of the frame much better than the Colt-it had a nice countour that really fit my small hands. The sights were also pretty good; the rear sight was a bit wider and deeper than the Colt and the front sight was a tad higher and gave a good sight picture. The trigger was nice and crisp and accuracy was okay, but nothing spectacular. Back in the pre Interarms days when these pistols sold for 2/3 the price of a Colt they were a good deal. Even with the price hikes the Star was doomed by the change in tastes to double action high capacity 9mm automatics. At the present low prices, and a 10 round magazine limitation, I think they are a pretty good deal. These are just my opinions.

My first Star was in 1959. I was 15 and got it by MAIL for $15 from Seaport Traders. Was new in the box (surplus) with an extra mag and I was real upset because it was a .38 Super. Hell of a gun I learned. They have been around off and on for ages. Still a great value. I saw some advertised (Model now for $125 (shooter grade).
I had a friend buy one and the finish was very marginal, but the bore was fine (dirty) and he did a Brownell's oven parkerizing job on it. Looks like a $350 gun and shoots great.0 -
Just for reference, the letter on Star models indicates the caliber:
A = 9mm Largo
B = 9mm Parabellum
M = .38 Super
P = .45
