Hakim gas regulator settings

I have never heard any of these horror stories myself. The rifle has 8 gas port settings (if memmory serves me). The final setting closes off the flow of gas copmletely and makes the rifle a manual operating repeater. I suggest you simply start with a setting in the middle and test fire the rifle. If it is sluggish, set it to a higher opening to allow for more gas flow. If it functions fine as is, I always suggest that you leave it alone. These gas port settings were designed for use in military situations that are simply not encountered in the civilian shooting world.

i have mine set so that it ejects cases about 6-8 feet with equadoran
ammo. If i fire turk ammo on the same setting, it tosses(read THROWS)
    about 30 feet.
needless to say i dont use turk ammo in mine.
remember, extractors are up around $35 and rapidly becoming HARD to find.[8D]

There was a nice article on the Hakim several months back in the Shotgun News that went into the gas settings by John Malloy. It is in issue 30 volume 56. He even gave instructions on making an adjustment wrench from an empty cartridge. Rotating the adjuster counter clock wise, he says the normal position is the 6 th notch out of a total of 7. I have had one for several years and have also been afraid to shoot it. I have not gotten around to shooting mine since the article came out. I would see if I could find a copy of the article as it is loaded with info on the Hakim.

You can also buy plastic adjusting keys for those for a couple bucks at Tapco. Got one works great.
