Remington 1100 shell cycling problem

I have an 1100 that fires the first shot fine, but after it picks up the second shell the operating handle does not fully engage forward. Any idea what's gone wrong???

  Try cleaning and lubing the outside of the magazine tube. Mine does that sometimes and this allows the action to slam shut. If the action eases shut, it may not lock up all the time.

  The stock/action spring could be weak, dirty or in need of lubrication.

  Check:
  > Barrel gas hole fully open
  > O ring condition, and position
  > Action internals dirty

  JIMSTARK is correct. Do not lube the mag tube.

  In addition to everything Guns&Glass recommends, I'd also really scrub your chamber out. Every now and then, my 1100 doesn't like certain ammo because of shell hull dimensions. (Sounds weird, but I swear it's true.) My best solution has been to ensure an absolutely clean chamber to ensure full lock.
  
  Cleaning is often your first and best answer to most functioning problems on gas-operated semi-autos.

  I don't know what shells your using but I've seen that problem in short brass shells. Try usin a High brass shell they cost as little more but they don't hardly ever jam

  make sure the rings are mounted back on properly, if the one is reversed it wont seal properly causing the problem. There should be a sticker on the barrel showing the proper way to install them. Also make sure it is clean on the outside of the magazine tube where they slide over, but like mentioned before. DO NOT OIL THE MAGAZINE TUBE OUTSIDE.

  in my opinion the rem mod 1100&the m16 are in the same boat in that you have to keep them spotless for them to cycle wright.during my vetnaum tour(2yr) i was issuled both these weapons and to me they are both junk!!!!!!! put the mod1100 in your case & buy ya a good recoil or short action gas operated weapon browning.winchester,benelli

  I only wish I had read your post sooner. I have a 1100 Remington 12 gauge Trap, that I bought in 1969, and a 1100 Remington 28 gauge, about the same time. The 28 has killed it's share
  of birds, and the 12 gauge has shoot thousands of shell's on trap, both with out any problem's. If I had read your post sooner, I surely would have thrown them both away!
