I am looking for a good..not great scopr for a Winchester Model 70 30-06. The P.O.S on it now has such a narrow field of view. I would like one that allows for more of a full field view. Any suggestions?

    I mounted a red dot scope on my SuperBlackhawk 44mag my problem is after about 8 shot the scope moves.I have tighten and retighten the screws on the rings.what can I do to stop this from happening.[url][/url]

    There are dozens of economical scopes that will give you good service. You need to give us a price range and/or range and type of shooting you have in mind.

    I live in Wisconsin and use it for hunting whitetails. I think $200-$300 should get something decent. With all of the trees and brush in the area, it is difficult to pick up the deer unless you have a decent field of view. Average range would be 50-100 yards approx.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x40.. 200.00 to 220.00 or any of the Nikon Monarchs.. 215.00 to 275.00

    Nikon Buck Master 4.5-14 will fit your needs great. I don't think you're going to get the Monarchs quite that cheap. The 3x9 Monarch is my favorite scope in that power and it would be a great scope on your gun. GHD

    www.cheaperthandirt.com has Nikon monarch 3-9x40 for 265.09.

    Best thing is to go to your local sporting goods store and look at all kinds of scopes first hand find one you like.

    BOTH OF THESE ARE EXCELENT GLASS AND ARE VERY CLEAR WITH WIDE FIELDS OF VIEW ,IN FACT THE BURRIS IS CALLED FULLFIELD II....

    Luepold or Nikons would be what I would use. Play it safe with Top of the line scopes.

    narj, you should consider something like a 1.5x-5x variable or a fixed power 2.5x for the conditions you describe. Preferably with a post and crosshair reticle, but crosshairs are fine. I'd pick the 1.5x-5x so that if you find yourself in a situation where you need a wide field of view use it in the low power setting, but if you wind up watching an area where you'd be shooting farther than 100yds or so, like over a pasture or open area, set it at 5x. I used a scope like that for years hunting in the mountains of VA where a 100yd shot was a long one and it worked fine. I only in recent years changed it out to a 2.5x-8x since I started hunting where the country is more open and longer shots can be made.(The country is a hell of a lot flatter, too. Can't take them thar hills anymore, but I sure love 'em.) Good luck,

    For years, I have used fixed power scopes on my deer rifles..6X for the S.Carolina woods and short fields..8X for mulies out west when I felt I needed a little more magnification.. What I find is most important is the objective size.... I try and use 44,46,50 or 56mm with a 30mm tube, since those gather much more light for tired old eyes.. Works for me..

    I would go with the 3x9-40 Nikon Monarch. I put one on a .338 win mag and it works great, even in the trees. Elkhunter777 sells them on ebay (factory refurbished) fairly cheap and you can email him direct at HuntElk4@cs.com and ask for his straight out price (less than $220 I believe).
    If you are willing to go over the $300 range The is a guy who sells a 4x12-50 Seeadler scope (German made) with a 30mm tube for about $325. This would definately gather light and give a wide field of fiew if you kept the zoom low. His email is caryatis@msn.com and his ebay handle is caryatis (has a good rating).

    narj stay away from Nicon scopes, I had one go bad and could NOT get the Co. to honor the warenty, I have a lot of luelold and have sent a lot of them back to the Co. for repairs, no problem they all ways fix them. Have gone to B&L so far so good.

    For your kind of hunting I would look for a fixed power scope not over 4x or a low magnification variable like 1.5-5x. My first choice would be Burris. Take a look also at www.bearbasin.com for good prices on quality optics and good people to do business with.
