Chamber Pressure

Could someone give me a rough idea of the relative chamber pressure between a 22mag and a 9mm pistol? I mean is it twice as much?

  My guess is that the 9mm Luger has 1.5-2 times the pressure
  of the 22mag.

  It rather depends on the load being discussed in the 9mm. US made ammo for the 9x19, in "standard" pressures, is pretty wussy,pressurewise, under 30,000 CUP. NATO spec 9mm is more like 40,000 CUP, and real ammo in a 9mm, like the original Glaser load for this caliber, is more like 45,000 CUP. The .22 mag is more like 20,000 CUP, or maybe 25,000. It's not as hot as it was when it first came out. It was blowing cases at the firing pin indentation with some guns, you see. Rimfires have always had that limitation. You have to make the brass case soft enough to be "dentable" by the firing pin, and that limits the usable pressures with such rds.

  Current SAAMI standards for 9mm are 35,700psi max product avg and
  41,300psi max individual pressure. Current Canadian 9mm military is 37,000psi.
  I believe WW2 Canadian and British may have been higher.

  cbxjeff. first off I am not an expert,second you may already know this I do not know why you need this info but notice that there are 2 different ways of expressing pressure and they are not interchangable. copper units are not pounds per sq. inch and p.s.i. is not the same as c.u.p thought I would say somthing to be on the safe side.
