Rifle Sight Removal

I have a 870 Rem. can I remove the rifle sights or dose this have to go to a smith? I just installed a propoint scope and the front sight really shows up in my field of view. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

  you can drift out the front sight blade but the base is silver soldered on (lots of heat to remove & will leave a bright spot)

  Thanks Mike, maybe I will drive the front sight out, that might be enough to satisfy me, I really don't want a bright spot on the barrel

  I don't know anything about the Propoints, but can you use a see thru mount? It will raise the scope up higher.
