You get what you pay for I have went from rags to riches in scopes I finally realized the swarovski was the one for me but for the average hunter leupold is an excellent choice.0 -
Kowa is well respected by a lot of bench shooters, but is a bit more spendy than your indicated range. You might take a look at Eagle Optics scopes as well. Like Elkmaniac, I found high end optics work best for my old eyes and I use a Leica APO scope for birding, but have an old Bushnell for the range.0 -

Take a look at the Bushnell spacemaster or the Bausch and Lomb discoverer. Both are very clear and are less thazn 500 dollars. The B&L is only around three hundred and is an awsome scope. Check it out before you buy anything. You won't regret it. 0 -
