Ready to replace my Tasco scope. Any recommendations for a quality benchrest scope (around $500)? Any brand I should steer clear of?

You get what you pay for I have went from rags to riches in scopes I finally realized the swarovski was the one for me but for the average hunter leupold is an excellent choice.

Kowa is well respected by a lot of bench shooters, but is a bit more spendy than your indicated range. You might take a look at Eagle Optics scopes as well. Their Binos, made by Celsetron are a real bargin, easily as good as binos twice the price. Here are a couple of sites for model and price comparison: www.bearbasin.com www.eagleoptics.com

Like Elkmaniac, I found high end optics work best for my old eyes and I use a Leica APO scope for birding, but have an old Bushnell for the range.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your suggestions.

Take a look at the Bushnell spacemaster or the Bausch and Lomb discoverer. Both are very clear and are less thazn 500 dollars. The B&L is only around three hundred and is an awsome scope. Check it out before you buy anything. You won't regret it.

    Bushnell Boy and Beer Boy-
Apparently you wish to advertise your products for nada. Your quality
is also the same. Bushnell was once a secondary quality to Bausch and
Lomb-Rochester, New York. Bushnell was once imported into Pasadena, Ca. As employees of Bushnell, suggest you advertise/auction on GB.
You have proved your lack of knowledge on optics. 101

Go to snipercountry.com they did a very good comparison test on all the top brands and rated them in a half dozen areas.
