S&W Model 41--Ejection Problem
I have a S&W model 41 which seems to have an unusual problem. The first round fails to eject after firing. If I manually clear it and continue firing, all other rounds eject just fine. This happens with both of my factory magazines and with a variety of ammunition. The gun is spotlessly clean as are the mags. Any ideas why this is happening?

2 questions:
1. What does it do to the first round if you start with a partial magazine (less than 10 rounds)?
2. How are you closing the slide on the first round?
Add a third question - have you asked S&W about the problem?

Shootist--I get a failure to eject with less than a full mag.I have tried dropping the slide on a full magazine--I still get the ejection problem.Sometimes the first round will eject, but barely--it doesn't kick out with a lot of poop. No, I have not spoken with the factory about this problem-- I really don't want to send it back ( I live in Canada ) 0 -
Is it the first round from EVERY magazine , or the first round of the day?
Are you firing "2 handed", from a rest or "single handed".
And I agree, give Colt a call, at least, if the problem persists.0 -
If you are using some lighter target or standard velocity ammo, I suspect that might come into play. I'm trying to picture the inside of the Model 41, I believe it's the 6563 recoil spring that might be in need of replacement if it's old or just plain worn. I don't know how your country is with gunsmiths, but this doesn't sound like a terribly difficult issue.
