454 Cusall/45LC Ruger Super Redhawk TALK TO ME

I'm thinking of buying a Ruger Super Redhawk with the long 9 1/2" barrel. The reason I'm looking at the Redhawk is because my hands are small and I can reach the trigger on it. I have looked at the Freedom arms but their grip and my hand seem to be in different states. The big S&W 500 is way to big. I can only touch the side of the trigger when it's cocked.

My Questions to all of you is as follows:
Should it be Magna Ported?
Should I be looking at the 7 1/2" instead?
Anyone out there has any pros or cons on the redhawks?
Is there a better gun on the market?

I presently shoot a Ruger Super Blackhawk Old Model that has a scope on it. It is very accurate and is very pleasant to shoot with full house loads. I use it for hunting and target shooting. I have noticed that 300 yard steel targets must be hit in the top half to knock them down. I'm hopping the 454 Cusull takes care of that.

    To your "questions".

    Magna Port - If you have problems /w recoil yes.

    7 1/2 -vs- 9 1/2 inch barrel - If your doing long range target shooting the more barrel the better. You don't say if your doing competition or just like to shoot long distances. If competition be sure you know all the rules. I've seen some guys drop big $$$ only to find out that their gun was not in compliance. Handgun hunting??? The shorter barrel would be a little easier to handle in quick/tight situations, but you make no mention of what you might be hunting w/ a handgun.

    Pro and Con on SRH - Everyone has opinions and many conflict. They are good value, dependable revolvers that are used very widely for hunting, various competitions, and general blasting.

    Is there a better gun (revolver) on the market - Yes. Is there a better value revolver? No not in the SRH price range ... least ways I've not come across one.

    if you can shoot one before you buy one , the recoil in the SRH 454 is nasty , to me it was a very sharp twist to my wrist , you may want to look at the 480 instead it seems to have more of a hard shove

    I've recently purchased a Magnum Research BFR in 454 Cusull, I like it - although I've only got about 100 rounds thru it. It's kick is punishing! I also shoot a 50AE, with 10" barrel, without a doubt the 454 is harder on the hands. I can't say anything about the ruger, SRH 454 anyway, but the 454 round is hot. My 454 BFR has an 8" barrel, accuracy is fine - I haven't shot it past about 75 yards at this point. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
