What level of accuracy can I expect from a...

Weatherby Super Varmint Master??? Does anyone here have any experience with them. I am considering one chambered in .243 but I have no idea what size groups to expect from one. Any feedback will be appreciated! Thanks.

    In a three shot group they should be touching at 100 yards or all in one hole if you reload your own shells.

    Eric,..the barrel is a good one. As long as the wthby freebore is absent (as with most non-wthby chamberings) you have a good start. the Kreiger Criterian barrel is button rifled,..not one of their cut rifled,.so keep that in mind, but carrying the Kreiger name, I'd trust is pretty far. The Bell and Carlson medalist stock is a nice platform as well. AS LONG AS you get an action with good lug engagement,..I'd say .5moa is not asking much with good factory ammo. A friend has one in 22-250 and loves it. The 9 lugs is the only issue I have with the wthby actions. Gunsmith has a jig he made to lap all 9 lugs one at a time,..seems to work well.

    Ohh yeah,..the Ken Farrel bases for a 700rem work NICE on those as do the Talleys.[:D][;)]

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Thanks for the info! I think I'm going to order one in a few minutes. The only think I could find on their website about accuracy was a blanket statement guaranteeing 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards[xx(] This was not all that promising!

    Looks like I'm back to the .243 for now JustC[^]. That .338 is going to wait until I can afford the Sako TRG 42.[:p][:)]

    Eric,.. do a search on the TRG stock issue. Please don't take this as a dig on Sako,..I have 3 sako actions (1 bulit and 2 more actions in the box to be built). They are superb actions no doubt about it,...but the TRG stocks were craking under recoil in the 338 lapua round. this may very well have been fixed,..but I have seen quite a few posts in reference to this. The 338 lapua is a beast unto itself[8D]

    As to the SVM,..I would bet they shoot their arse off. You can't hardly go wrong with a kreiger barrel and a full length bedding block stock which is an exact copy of the HS precision idea. I would own a SVM as long as it WAS NOT a wthby caliber. The freebore is an idea I DO NOT AGREE WITH. Yes they give higher velocities,..but that means little upon impact. Most folks don't know or won't admit if they do,..that the wthby factory ammo is a MAX load of IMR7828 powder. That comes straight from an employee of wthby. Therefore the freebore makes them pressure resistant,..but place a factory round in a match chamber and watch the primer crator and the ejector scar the case head!!!! I know you are an accuracy guy,..so that is important info. benchrest chambers will not stand a wthby factory load.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Thanks again for the info. I was not aware of the freebore concept incorporated into the Weatherby calibers...and I must say, I don't agree with it either. I also did not know that their ammo was loaded to maximum load. Thanks for the info![:)][8D]
