out of box accuracy
Its been a few years since I bought a NIB rifle. I am going to buy a new 243 within the enext few weeks. Any opinions [:D]on who is making the best out of the box heavy bbl rifle these days[?]

Most all of the present day mfg. rifles are pretty darn good out of the box, but, in my opinion ... Savage still makes a rifle that gives you good value and good accuracy ... the new accutriggers take a little getting used to but one you do, they are pretty sweet. 
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Unless you are looking to spend a pile of money, I whole heartedly concur with Contenderman. The new Savages with the accutrigger are really sweet and the price(s) can't be beat! If you decide on one of them, I would say the chances of you being disappointed are slim to none, IMHO. 0 -
I concur with the Savage for accuracy out of the box. I have a .223 in 12FV that produces clovers consistently. The only thing done to it was a trigger job.
I have heard but can't swear to it because I haven't shot them in .243, that Ruger makes a great varmint rifle and so are the new Winchester coyotes. I have shot their better grade in .223 and had .5 moa without much probblem. -Good luck.

IMHO, Weatherby Vangard.
Reason: Written guarantee for 1.5 MOA at 100 yards out-of-the-box and comes with an adjustable trigger. Reasonably priced at your local Walmart.
The other brands mentioned are excellent choices too.

well depending on exactly what you are looking for... savages are reasonably priced... i can not speak for their accuracy on personal experience... i tend to lean towards the remingtons for some reason ...[:D] it really all depends on what kinda of bucks you want to shell out 0 -
Rem 700VSSF[;)] The savages are nice,..but I prefer the 700rem action. I have shot the heavy savages in 300win mag and they are sweet shooters,..but as I said,..I'll take a stainless fluted rem rifle[:p]
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

I have shot Remington 700 since 1968. Wouldn't own anything else. I tried to take mine in the .243 to Viet Nam but they forced me to carry the M-16 instead. They said they couldn't supply me with shells. So I told them that I didn't want to play anymore and I went home. 0 -
For under 600.00 you can buy a Savage 12BVSS in 243 that will have a trigger that can be set to 1.5lbs. Comes with a wood laminated stock and sports a heavy fluted stainless barrel. My savage shoots 1/2 MOA with Federal Gold Match Ammo.
Or if you want a really nice varmit gun in 243, COOPER makes a sweet rifle for around 1200. One of the sweetest semi custom rifles Ive ever shot. Will do 1/2 and under with hand loads.0 -
For the money, I'd go with Howa. Amazingly accurate and well built rifle, at a surprisingly cheap price. 0 -
