ruger blackhawk 45 colt extra cyl worth?

whats this thing worth? it came out of my uncles basement. it is a little pitted on the outside around the cyl. inside is fine. how old is this thing?

    It's mid '60s to early '70s. Do you have a gun to go with it? Check the chambering-- is it .45 LC or .45 ACP? .45 ACP is probably worth more, maybe $30.00.

    just has marked in marker on box, 45 colt. no gun.

    With out the gun it was made for it's not going to be worth much as it would need to be refitted to a different gun. It should have the serial number on it from the original gun.
    It'll make you a good pencil holder in a pinch[:D]

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Bobski, check the chambers to see if a .45LC fits. If not, it's a .45ACP and probably worth $30 since there are a lot of .45 Rugers around w/o the conversion cylinder. Fitting it is no big deal.

    bobski, the first Ruger .45 blackhawk was maufactured in Dec 1970. The first .45 convertible was manufactured in Nov. 1971. So not older that 11/71. If it is a pre '74 manufacture (Old Model) it may be worth much more than $30. Other than the pitting it looks unfired, from what I can see.

    it has hand marks on the cyl so it was installed at one time. the odds are the gun was sold with whatever other cyl was in it and this got left behind. i found it in what you see pictured so it was left behind and it just rusted up. other than the rust pits, you are right, it looks ok to use. its nothing a good blue smith couldnt redo neatly. does the serial number help what year it was made?

    The s/n on the cylinder is not the full s/n. The first convertible .45 s/n was 45-00111. It is most likely the last 4 digits of the s/n of the gun it was fitted to, but if you read the warning on the box you have, it states "the # on the cylinder must be identical to the last 3 digits of serial number". Both cylinders on Ruger convertibles are marked this way.

    First .45 s/n 45-00111 up to s/n 48-16019 in 2004. I beleive they stopped shipping the cylinders in the little box some years ago, so you can cross off those years. I do not know the year.

    You can also measure the cylinder total lenght. The Old Models were shorter than the New Models. Again, I can't give you the correct figures.
