Cracked Ithaca 51 slide assembly

Bought a used Ithaca model 51 12 gauge. Used it about 2 weeks (light field loads) before 'discovering' that one of the dual twin action bars on the slide assembly was completely cracked/broken. It was the sliding bar on the right side (ejection port side). I was just wondering if these guns had some kind of inherently bad design that was the cause of these cracked slide assemblies, or if Ithaca had poor quality control during the tempering of the metal during the manufacturing process in those years, or if it was due to over-zealous 'reloaders' getting a little heavy on the powder. My gun was the standard model, not the magnum, and I only shot factory field loads. I am almost positive gun was 'broke' before I bought it.

    Yes, it is a commmon problem with the 51. I had the same problem with a trap model. I got a replacement part from a seller here on GB. Do a search for model 51 parts. The seller was flying wolf(sp)that I got the part from. Good Luck.
