Corcano Carbine or sportirized Corcano rifle?
This is a carbine I recently picked up. It no longer has the original rear sight. It was replaced with a buckhorn rear sight. Was it a rifle that was cut down or was it a Carbine that was modified a bit? Been think about buying some 6.5mm for it to see how well is shots.
The rear sight is a Marbels.

The rear sight is a Marbels.

If the barrel hasn't been cut from it's original length you can generally tell that way, i.e the carbine had a 17 1/2" barrel, the short rifle was 22 1/8".

Judging by the barrel length and the rear sight, which appears to be mounted on what was the fixed rear sight, I'd say you have a "sporterized" M-38 short rifle. You should be able to find a date and/or some Roman Numerals on the barrel just forward of the receiver, and that would help identify your rifle. 0 -

The date is 1939 XVII. I can also see TRENI. Thanks for your help.

Just a note. 6.5X52 Carcano ammo is available from several sources, but get it from Graf's as it is loaded with the proper bullet; proper bullet diameter is .268"; most ammo is loaded with .264" bullets due to availability, which doesn't help accuracy.

I agree-1938 short rifle. In addition to the rear sight, the stock has been cut. If you check again I believe you will see the word is "Terni" for the mfg/arsenal.

Springfield Sporters might well have wood and some other spare parts for your Terni..check it out if you want to return it to original.

"Terni" it is.
It's marked "SA", 20.5 inch barrel(22" if measure the shank) and is in 7.35mm. From what I read of auction #27308607 "This rifle is SA marked, indicating that it was one of the rifles sent to hael Finland in their fight against Russia." Too bad I couldn't get to it before this happened. BTW there is two notch marks (that have been filled in) on the top of the stock.[:0]
