Parts count?
I've been eying the Saiga-12 shotgun,and all the fun furniture available for it. After reading up a lot of info on these guns,I'm confused. It has to do with the parts count. Apparently you need 4 American made parts to be legal?? Huh?? Does this mean that the ones for sale on GB have already had this done?? If not,wouldn't the gun be illegal for me to own?? Didn't all this stuff go away with the expiration of the AWB?

The parts count that you are refering to is an importation law. Not AWB issue. The parts count is differant for each imported weapon. They must have enough american parts to be considered "U.S. made". You must have the proper U.S. parts count to add such nasty things as pistol grips or folding stocks. I don't have all the details so I will stop here. I suggest a search 922r law for more information.
The weapons you refer to on GB are 922r compliant. Some of the weapons are actually redone at a firearm distributor to be compliant. An example would be Robinson Armamnet and their VEPR K AK variants.

Thanks ginmaster You got me pointed in the right direction.
So....to recap..the ones listed on GB are civilian legal,as is.
If I want to start changing out parts,like adding a folding stock,pistol grip,hi-cap mag,etc.,... Then I need to concern myself with adding American made parts,per 922r that you refer to.Correct?
I'll google the 922r and study up.

Yes,it is a import thing as stated above.The unmodified Saiga 12's for sale on GB are legal as is as "sporting arms"now to be legal to have a pistol grip at least 4 certain parts must be replaced with USA made parts to make the gun considered USA compliant.They usualy are:
1.USA trigger group which counts as 3 parts.Hammer,spring ,disconector.
2.Usa made pistol grip
3.USA buttstock
4.USA gas piston can also be changed
Its the same as the Sar and Wasp10 type AK47's that are available thru military import companys,they have already had there parts changed before they could be sold,basicly the recievers were destroyed overseas and the rest of the parts were sent here to USA then replaced with new USA recievers.

Thanks Pointer. I'm now well read on at least 12 pages of old posts on the Saiga-12 forum,and now not only understand the issue,but may buy the FCG,a SAW PG,(that's 4!) and do it myself.
Any source for 8 rnd mags???? Postsover there make me think they are made of pure "Unobtainium".

Although the number of US parts varies from weapon to weapon, the gist of the law is:
"not more than 10 imported parts" ...
