mauser receiver
I need to know some info on this receiver I have that others have told me could be military etc. I have a receiver and it is stamped with the numbers M3699. It is attached to a remington Fireball .221 barrel. This is all it is a receiver. no trigger nothing. and the barrel. can anyone help me by that number. I was told it maybe a mauser. if anyone can help please let me know. I am wanting to sell both but would like to know what I got. thanks for the help. Welcome aboard first. When asking for help in info or identifying something, pictures say a thousand words. If you can post some pictures of it, then you will get many more responces to your question. Without a picture and just a seriel number, there is no way of telling what type of receiver it is.

Yes photo's do go a long way towards finding a answer, but like you I can't figure out how to do that either[:(]
The 11th box over in the format line is a (image inserter) but I don't find it works for me, but I'm one of those mac snobs and maybe thats why....

In order to post a picture, you need to host it somewhere on-line ... one of my favorites is www.photobucket.com They are easy to up-load to and provide the 3 most common types of URL's for posting pic's on the web ...
When you want to post a pic to this site, up-load you pic to an on-line server like photobucket then get the address (URL) and when you insert it to your post, the text will look like this:
However others will see your picture ... if you click on the quote button (13th button) it will show you the actual text of the thread.

It is a military receiver for sure. As to it being a Mauser, closer pictures of the receiver would be a great help. Especially a closer picture of the receiver as in your third picture (barrel2.jpg) so as to look at the bolt removal area. Picture of the top side of the receiver and the area where the bolt enters the receiver is also helpful. I did notice that there are a LOT of screw mounts on the barrel (on top at that)for some odd reason. What length is the barrel? That is an odd configuration to say the least IMHO!

THIS LOOKS LIKE A M-93 MAUSER RECIEVER (A. SHALLOW THUMB NOTCH, B. GAS VENT HOLE IN LEFT SIDE OF RECIVER). IF THIS IS STILL A IN .221 FIREBALL CAL. IT WILL TAKE A LOT OF WORK TO GET IT SHOOTING AND A LOT OF PAPERWORK TO MAKE IT LEAGAL. RIGHT NOW YOU HAVE A SHORT BARRELED RIFLE AND A BIG NO-NO. I SUGGEST YOU UNSCREW THE BARREL ASAP. AND SELL THEM SEPARATELY. 0 -
Just a hypothesis here, but could someone hae been trying to make a bolt action pistol there? Short barrel of that length...doesn't make sense for a rifle at all...the sight radius looks to be about 10 inches at best! The screw holes could be for mounting a full length scope package? The fireball makes a great pistol caliber and it looks like there is just enough barrel to launch pills if using quick powders. Just a guess, but I think it has some merit. If this were a pistol action, then would it not be legal as well?

This appears to be a Mauser small ring (stripped) action (model '93, '94, '95, or '96) fitted with a Remington XP 100 (10 1/2 inch long) barrel.
The Remington threads are large enough (same as M.600, 700 etc.) to cut down & rethread to fit the small ring mauser. The barrel in the picture is no longer standard & of little or no value by itself.
A stripped small ring Mauser (reworked to remove crests & proof marks) is of minimal value by itself & best used as a paper weight.
It appears to me what you have is the start of a "Bubba Custom". Someone may want these parts to tinker with, but you will have to find that special buyer to be able to market these items.
