CZ 452 "Trainer" vs. CZ 452 "Lux"

I was fortunate enough to receive a "large" sum of money (to me) in the form of gift cards to my favorite local sporting goods chain here in the midwest. I went to eyeball new rimfire rifles today. I don't know why but I can't seem to get enough rimfire rifles in my gun cabinet. I picked up a CZ 452 "Trainer" and put it on layaway today. I'll pick it up at the end of the week since my toy budget has been seriously depleted by all of my Christmas spending.

I've heard nothing but good things said about CZ rifles and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the 452. There seems to be no noticable difference between the CZ 452 Trainer and the CZ 452 Lux. Is there a difference? Is it the wood? Based on reputation and physical inspection, this seems to be an excellent purchase for the mere price of $270. I was thinking about using this gun as a plinker and maybe a rabbit/squirrel-getter. In everyone's opinion, is this the right rifle to fit those purposes?

    A Winchester 52 is WAY out of my league. I suppose my motorcycle purcahse this year could have been forgone for the purchase of several fine firearms but I made my bed and now I sleep in it--happily. Saturday is payday so I look forward to picking up my new CZ 452 Trainer. I was looking at CZ USA's website and they mention that the Beechwood version was a limited run and sold out in 2003 so this must be from old stock or something. Walnut or Beechwood I don't care. I picked the prettiest one from the bunch and can't wait to see how it performs. Hopefully I can find some time this coming weekend to give it a good workout.

    Check out the CZ website -- it should clarify the models. www.cz-usa.com . I think three different versions of the CZ452 are being confused here, along with the old Brno versions. CZ has a kid's version with a beech stock, short length of pull, and plain sights called the Scout. Then there is the Trainer, which also has the cheap beech stock, but it is full sized and has the neat European humped buttstock and curved forend, also a sliding tangent rear sight and (adjustable)hooded front. The Lux has all this with a walnut stock. I have a 452 Trainer and absolutely love it. I fully agreee with Mark in it being the best deal around in a .22 rf sporter!

    Regarding the Brno Model 1, my brother bought one of those some years back. Also another friend of a friend has one. Indeed, they had cheap beech stocks and simple sights. The magazines were fully interchangeable with the late model CZ's.

    I would say either for the price. I got a 452 ZKM 2E and love it. On sale up here for $199.00. I can shoot 1" groups with good target ammo. Nearly as well with most brands. Down the road you may find the "Lux" will have more value though, should you ever (I know this is sacrelidge to some)decide to sell it. -good luck with your decision.

    I'd get the cz trainer especially if you are on a budget you are looking at saving $150 - $200 on the beechwood over the walnut but they are both as accurate as one another.

    however for a plinker I would get a ruger 10/22 or another auto loader it lets you shoot more and have more fun

    The CZ is far more accurate than the 10-22. I own a 452 American and it is great. No need for all of the silly toys than people hang on their 10-22s.
