    I am in the market for an original WWII carbine. Before I buy, I need to get an education. Can anyone recommend a book or two? Is there good info available on the net somewhere? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

    Not sure what to say. The question is kind of like "What can you tell me about Chevrolets?" You could write a book on the subject. In fact, quite a few books HAVE been written about the M1 carbine.

    But, for the basics, the M1 carbine was developed during WWII. 10 manufacturers made them during the war for the US government. The carbine fires the .30 carbine round, equivalent in power to the .357 mag. All unaltered USGI carbines are collectible; value depends upon maker, originality, & condition. There have also been several commercial copies made after the war; value & safety of these varies.

    If you have a specific question, or want a recommendation on books to read on this subject, let us know.

    That doesn't help much. You're going to have post high quality digital photos if you plan to sell it, so let us see them. And, you want to buy a copy of "US M1 Carbines Wartime Production" by Craig Riesch so that you can describe every part of your carbine.

    I can't tell you at this point if your carbine is worth $200, or $2,000. Neither can a potential buyer. If you don't do your homework, you're not going to get top dollar for your gun. The folks who bid on Gunbroker usually know their guns.
