pistol-grip shotguns
I've been considering putting a pistol grip on my 870. I like the Pachmayr Vindicator kit. How bad is the recoil with a pistol grip? I've fired a 20 with a pistol grip and it wasn't bad. Mine is a 12 gauge, though. Is there anything else I should take into account before I decide to get the pistol grip?

I had a Mossberg 500A Tactical with a pistol grip and swing out stock. It kicked like a mule, but I think that may have had more to do with the super short barrel than the grip. I shot it a couple of times from the hip, not the easiest thing to hold on to. Not sure if this information is the same situation you are asking about, maybe it will help.

I`ve had a few shotguns with just the rear pistolgrip, It is stonger recoil than the 20ga. naturally, but it can be controlled. the vindicator grip is the way to go. alot better grip than most on the market!!! Just remmember to keep your wrist straight with the weapon!!! I`ve had quite a few customers to puchase pistol grips for shotguns from me and after awhile they usually go back to the full stock!!!! I have a mossberg 500 with a pistol grip and I dont heve no trouble with it at all. I just use mine for home defens though I took it skeet shooting to let a friend borrow it and after 5 shoots with the folding stock his sholder was gone. I tried and after 3 I could tell he wasn't just being a cry baby. All the folding stocks I'v seen dont have recoil pads. 0 -
I have a 870 with a pistol grip it is great for rabbit hunting. The recoil never bothered me with a 20 inch barrel.

Hello, there is no problem with recoil as long as you aren't using magnum loads. The Vindicator is the best on the market for that. I have a factory Remington 870 folding stock and the only comfortable way to shoot it is with the stock folded.

putting a pistol grip on a shotgun makes 'em about as handy as pockets in underwear!

I think you have gotten good advice from the group.
I have shot a number of 12 gauge pistol grip shotguns and have had one for years decked out with a side folder, side saddle shell holder, red dot sight, tactical sling - the works.
If you shoot high brass, magnums, buckshot, or slugs be prepared for a jolt! Not impossible, but there are more fun things to do.
I have found 12 gauge low brass or target loads work best. They give optimal control with this shotgun setup. Make sure you hang on to the slide handle.

I shot off 3 rounds of #4 fine shot high brass. It wasn't really that bad at all. Kinda stings the web of your hand alittle bit. I don't think i'd like shooting slugs through it to much. If its gonna be used just for home defense #4 fine shot should due just dandy.Good luck. 0 -
Before you put a pistol grip on your tube look at what these folks have to offer. www.atigunstocks.com I have one of their collapsible stocks on my Rem 5077. Great control, could use a little more recoil pad for max loads.[:D]
