SKS double and triple firing trouble

Have a SKS and when i shoot it it fires 2 or 3 shot burst is there anyway to fix it with out taking it to a gunsmith

    the SKS has a free floating firing pin. it can "slam" fire soft or high primers in loads. Are you shooting reloads? Are there high primers? Have you cleaned the firing pin hole out, it may have some rust from the supposedly non-corrosive (but corrosive) surplus ammo sold. If you chamer a round then remove it you will see a small indentiation from the firing pin. This is normal. Some senisitive primers will sometimes fire from this. Mil spec primers are available with hardsr cups. I am not so sure a new trigger group is the best way to start to solve this one, although it may be the most costly.

    I would take the firing pin out and clean the whole assembly. Carbon and other things like laquer from russian ammo build up in there causing the pin to stick and fire more than one round. This is known as slamfire. There is a pin that holds the firing pin assembly together. You have to pound it out(and I mean pound hard) and the pin will just slide out. Soak it in solvent, scrub it, oil it, reassemble and your back in business.

    A few years ago we had a member at our club that did a "trigger job" on his SKS ... the wife had been shooting it off the bench. The husband inserted another srripper of ammo for her while she was streching (not holding onto the weapon) ... when he pulled the strip out of the bolt carrier it chambered a round and slammed home ...

    Because I'm not much of a typest, I'll get to the point ...

    In the next few seconds the gun went Slam-fire-full-auto and dumped all 10 rounds ... recoil pushed it off the bench and it shot the woman in the back 3 times, she didn't survive.

    I believe the investigation found the husband not at fault but I don't remember I ever heard what the "cause" was determined to be.

    If you just got the rifle, there's probably cosmoline still stuck around the firepin assembly. Disassemble and clean.

    Thanks to all I'll try cleaning it before i mess with trigger

    If you decide on a new trigger group, send the trigger group to "Kivaari" instead (www.sksboards.com). He will rework the trigger to first rate for about the same price as a "new" junk trigger group. He has a great rep on that board.

    The same site has someone (Murray, I think) selling a spring-loaded firing pin. A bolt disassembly and thorough cleaning of the firing pin channel will usually solve any slamfire problems.

    Wow I guess I am not the only one with that problem. My SKS sometimes fires 2 rounds with one trigger pull.Is it in danger of exploding this way? It has been awhile since I last field stripped the gun. several hundred rounds have gone thru there since last cleaning the reciever. I will try that now. Thanks fell's and Happy holidays

    No, the gun will not explode, but it can be very dangerous.
    Full-Auto is great,handy and fun when you control it, but it can be deadly if you dont have control, just as the example that kimberkid gave.
    Clean that bad boy. Clean it now and clean it good!!![:D]

    #1 rule of full-auto. if you cant control it, dont use it!!![8D]
