Yugo 308 Ammo

I acquired several thousand rounds of Yugo 308 ammunition w/ red sealant around the primers. Does anyone know if this is this corrosive? The only markings are '7.62 MM' on the base.

    Anyone with any experience. This was purchased at Turner's in LA about 18 yrs ago.

    the red sealant protects it from moisture. Wolf ammo and Black Hills Match have it, those are the only ones that i know of. The red sealant is a good thing if your storing ammo.

    I have 70's vintage 8MM & 7.62X54 that is corrosive, I treat any imported milsurp ammo as such. But I don't have any experience with the Yugo .308. For what it's worth the calibers I have are reliable and fairly accurate, the primer sealant is not uncommon on milsurp ammo.

    Thanks, I'll assume it is corrosive and clean my HK on site as soon as I am finished shooting.

    Different question for you rsnyder55,
    Have you ever pulled apart the Yugo ammo to see what's in it? Powder load, bullet weight, chrono'd the load? I would expect berdan style primers are used. If so, believe it to be corrosive. The reason I ask you is I own two Yugo 8's and wanted to know the exact load they used. Wondering if it shoots better than the Turkish ammo which is extremely hot and consistent if not all that accurate.
    I have shot surplus 7.62X51 made as late as the '70's that had corrosive berdan primers. Olympic ammo made in Greece is not corrosive but one may never know...best to clean right away if possible anyhow. Thanks

    oops...missed the part where you said .308, thought you were talking about 8mm. Probably corrosive...clean rifle at range.

    I agree with Diesel.
    I've got alot of YUGO 8mm and 7.62x54 also from the 70's and all corrosive. Definately treat anything imported, even supposedly "new" stuff from wolf or Silver Bear, etc as corrosive.
