M-1905 Bayonet Question....
I understand the Original M-1905 Bayonet Characteristics and their History pretty well. Where I have trouble is in the History of the 1942/43 M-1905E1 Bayonets. Somehow I don't understand this "transition."
When the six new contractors started making the 10 inch bayonets, (Original 10 inch length), it is my understanding these were "New" and they weren't "Cut Down."
Here's my problem. Can anyone tell me How and Why the old 1905 Bayonets were "cut down" and how they seem to have ended up with the markings of the six companies making the M1905E1's and no longer were marked "SA" or "RIA" as were those made in the early 1900's?
Were the Original 1942/43 "New" bayonets made in the "Old" Original 16 inch blade length only to quickly "cut down" to the new 10 inch length? Anybody know about this? Help Please!

Evenin' Judge..The BAYONET M.1905E were modified M. 1905 & M.1942 Bayonets. Late in 1942 it was decided to cut 6" from existing Bayonets thus making a 10" Blade. Some were ground to a Spear Point and some to a Bowie Type Point...This is from M.H.Coles Book 3 of U.S. Military Knifes, Bayonets and Machetes.....Page 32.....

Thank you for the help......Must be too much "Christmas Cheer!" It finally came through to me..... The six contractors initially made their Bayonets in the 16 inch configuration, after which production began, they then went to the "NEW" 10 inch blade, (1942/43), and also done the "upgrade" which was to "Cut Down" all the 16 inch Bayonets to the "New" 10 inch length.
I may have been able to "read" this had it not been for the grape juice. Boy, that was easy, (after your help Cap'n). Thanks!
