I have an m1 converted to M1a. would like to know if receiver of the m1 and the m14 are the same size and everything. I know that they are different some how, but do not know how? I was think of getting an M1a stock and convert it to an m1 garand stock.

    You don't have an M1A; you have an M1 converted to accept a box magazine.

    M1A is the trademark for Springfield, Inc.'s semiautomatic version of the M14 rifle. With the exception of the trigger group & rear sight, I can't think of any parts that are common between the M1 & the M14. The M1 receiver is longer than the M14, as the M1 fires the .30-06 cartridge where the M14 fires the .308; however, it is possible to put a .308 barrel in an M1, & it will safely fire that cartridge.

    The stocks are totally different. The only stock that will work with your gun is a modified M1 stock.

    WITH ENOUGH TIME & $$ ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, THE M-1 AMD M-14 SHAREMANY SIMILARITIES, SOME TRIGGER PARTS INTERCHANGE, AS DO SOME SIGHT PARTS. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE IN THE RECEIVERS IS LENGHT. I HAVE AN M-1 MOUNTED IN A M-14E2 STOCK, ALL THAT WAS NESSESARY WAS TO LENGHTEN THE MAGAZINE WELL (FORWARD) AND GLUE IN A SMALL FILLER BLOCK IN FRONT OF THE TRIGGER HOUSING ASSY. THE RIFLE YOU HAVE IS A BM-59, THE ITALIANS MODIFIED M-1'S AND MANUFACTURED THESE.
