Any Mauser Experts out there
I just bought a Mauser military rifle & was wondering about the markings on it.It is a banner Mauser that says Standard Modell on the left side with four proof marks.Crowns over b,c,u,n. It also has a B prefix to the serial #.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have one of these myself. It is rightly called Standard Modell and was the predecessor to the K98k of WWII fame. Your bolt should be straight, but other than that, it's a K98k.
Mauserwerk started producing them to compete with the Czech and Polish short Mausers that were selling worldwide.
A number of Standard Modells went to China and these will have a small stamp resembling a pinwheel or sunburst on the left side of the receiver just aft of the barrel.
A great deal is not known due to the destruction of records during the war. This model was imported by ALFA through Stoeger to the US in the years preceeding WWII.
A good Standard Modell is kind of scarce in the US.

WOW! Chechmate...please keep it in original configuration! If you want something to sporterize, Non-import, original configuration rifles are getting harder to find, and I have no use for sporterized guns or altered action. Banner mausers are really cool and none too easy to come by...nice catch!

I'm actually still looking for a banner Mauser action. I don't care if the bolt does not match as long as the action is unaltered & not pitted. I've looked all over this rifle but cannot find any importers marks. 0 -
My Standard is a Mauser Banner, yours should be also.
You should have a Mauser "football" on the top of your receiver.

Yes it has the Mauser banner on it. I bought another banner mauser years ago at a gun show. It turned out to be one of the rilfes the Germans sold to the Chinese during WW2. I sold off the laminated stock & took off the barrel but the Germans ground off the original serial # off the side & took off a little more metal than I think they should have so I never used the action. 0
