Want to build a 1911
Well, I'm kinda new to this, but I really think I would like to build my own 1911.
I know you folks on the forum have a plethora of information with regard to what frame to start with, accessories, etc., but right now, I think I need to learn some more about guns in general.
I guess what I need is some gunsmithing information. Otherwise, I'll probably just make a mess, and that's not going to help anyone - except the smith who gets paid to fix it.
So where should I get started with this? Any good books or other resources I should look to first? Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a book authored by Layne Simpson on customizing 1911's. AGA(American Gunsmithing Association) will also have info. 0 -
Thanks for the info. I was looking for the AGA online and found the American Gunsmith Institute. Looks like they might have some good information for me. I'll be looking up Layne Simpson next. Thanks.

Excellent info! Thanks Xracer.
I think I've got a lot of research ahead of me, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to construct a nice showpiece one day.[:)]
I'm glad I found Gunbroker and the forum, there's a lot of great people here. Hope everyone has a pleasant Holiday!

Actually, I just stumbled onto 1911forum.com , and it's a pretty decent site. Thanks for the info. Now it looks like I'm gonna be reading some books and watching some videos for a while.
Thanks again for the help.
