need some prices: colt and walther
here is the deal, our elderly neighbor lady just lost her husband that was an avid gun collector. She has been told to come up with a price for the whole collection, including, accesories, lead, shells, guns, cases, you name it. without her being ripped off we need to know what kind of prices some of these guns are worth. due to certain circumstances the guns are not kept at her house so if we need to know something else it will take some time. I could probably get more info on them. the two in question now are a walther P38 pistol and a colt goldcup .45 automatic. most of his guns have never been shot. can anyone tell me anything just from this or do we need some more details on them? thanks in advance KC

OK Kcarr, you definitely need more info as in serial number on the Walther and Gold Cup, whether they're in the original box, and anything else you can find. That said, and assuming what you wrote was accurate(and without seeing them) minimum: Walther P38 $450 and Colt Gold Cup $950. They could both be worth much more. From my experience though they usually aren't very close to how someone describes them... 0 -
Digital pictures are the order of the day on this scenario. Take several pictures of each to include any damage you see, serial numbers, both sides of the gun and down the barrel if you can. These will help us give you a bit better idea of what ballpark we are talking about.
You need to have help on this one in my opinion, as just the 2 guns you mentioned had several variations and are considered generally very collectable. An unfired, early Gold Cup could be worth several thousand if it has the box and papers, and the P-38 could be an earlier commercial which is worth several thousand unfired as well. Use the closed auctions search feature for guns of the type you are looking to appraise. If you type in P-38 here, you will soon see the dizzying variety of P-38's that range from $350 P-1's to several thousand dollars worth of early production Vet Bring Back guns. Chances are good that these are not in that price range and the previous responder was right in saying his were low end guesses...they usually turn iout to be not the rarest or stellar condition guns you would originally assume. At any rate, if you were to take these to a less than honest retailer (and they are the minority, don't get me wrong.), they could get "well" on you in a hurry. You should also decide whether you want to move these pieces at wholesale or retail. If you use GB and sell the guns using all the sellers tools and machinations of retail auction you will get a very good price as the market drives the prices. If you sell these to a reseller, you should expect them to make a tidy profit from their endeavor, that could amount to as much as half the retail value of the collection. If you help us help you with better identification of the pieces in question up front, you will have some barganing power for either retail OR wholesale, as no-one will be able to easily pull the wool over your eyes! okay this is what we were thinking we needed to do but already the prices that were shot were above what we thought so we know not to rush this. I do have a digi camera so we could do that maybe, they are an hour away and I think we may have to rely on phone lines to help us out. thanks for the info I got already, this has helped us out immensely. when I find out some more info I will repost and try to tell everything we can find out about them. thanks again KC 0
