Rem 760 disassembly

Hi,
I am in the process of restoring an old 270 gamemaster pump (refinishing the wood and rebluing). I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the wood forend. I can't figure out how to get the action bars to release from the reciever. Thanks in advance.

    you have to remove the barrel by unscrewing the tube the forend rides on. there should be four holes in this tube either find or grind a long pin to exactly fit these holes (make sure you have this pin in TWO holes)and turn counter clockwise. you may have to heat the receiver/tube junction (not too much).

    I used to do a lot of disassembly of press fit bearings and such. One of the things I learned was that the molecules of steel expland to there fullest at 250 degrees. There is a wax crayon called temp-stick that melts at a precise temperature (many temps avail). You will aways know when you have just the right amount of heat. If can find a way to keep the internal part cool(wet rag or running water) this helps a lot. This allows only the external part to expand.
    This may be over kill in this situation, but I just recalled this from reading this post a thought I would share as I did use this to remove the barrel from an old H&A rolling block rifle a while back for a guy who spent a ton of money restoring his dad's old rifle.

    the reason for the heat at the receiver support tube juction is that rem. used a form of lock-tite on the threads, you only have to heat it to about 200 + deg. to soften it.

    I thought Lock-tite was only used on pre 1984 Harley Davidsons.
    I'm pretty sure that they now make a penetrating solvent for lock-tite as well. But if it cost as much as as the thread locker itself, heat is probably the way I'd go. If you use lock tite to reassrmble be aware that it can stain and that just a small dot on one side of the thread is all that is required in most cases. It also comes in several types to meet various requirements. Lock-tite also has a self life that is fairly short, but it comes in tubes with as little as .025 oz. which is the way to go unless you use an awful lot of it.

    Okay,
    I got the tube off that the forend rides on, but I still can't get the action bars to release from the receiver. Maybe I will just have someone look at it. Thanks.

    if you have the tube off, remove the barrel(it may be a tight fit but you should be able to wiggel it off) the bolt and all will follow the barrel.
